The market of Aix-en-Provence... A MUST-DO if you are in the region (Bouches-du-Rhone / Cote d'Azur). This market is the real deal, a real happening. Basically the whole city fills itself with with market stands. Flowers, fruits, vegetables, cheese, olives, traditional products, clothes, things for your house in a Provencal style, blankets, souvenirs... EVERYTHING!! And the best thing? It is all fresh and so delicious!!
You probably now already know that I love the (Southern) French markets, but I have heard from all local sides that this market was the one to go to and that it is really a MUST-DO if you are in the region. I already had a list of things that I wanted to see in the region, however, they all were the best with nice weather and as last weekend was not going to be the best I decided to visit the market of Aix-en-Provence.
And I can assure you, it was beyond my expectations. The market is huge and is separated in different parts through the city. Basically around the famous 'La Rotonde' is the food (alimentation) and just before it you can find crafts (artisinat) - which are basically all things that are handmade I suppose? It goed up from traditional kitchen bowls to bags from cane -, at the beautiful Cours Mirabeau you can find clothes/textile (vetements/textile), then at Place Richelme is a beautiful little food/fish market and at the Place de l'Hotel de Ville en Place de l'Université you can find the flower market, which is absolutely fascinating! You can find a map here :)
I would even say that I would easily drive one hour if I were on a vacation here to visit the market. And not only the market is amazing... The city Aix-en-Provence is also very pretty, especially the Centre Ville!
