I have visited Castellane since such a young age, however I have never known this magnificent lake, we made a road trip around it and it was a real hidden treasure!
Lac de Chaudanne is a lake next to Castellane, it is hidden by mountains and it is truly MAGNIFIQUE! There is a road, which swings across the mountain, leading you all the way to the top.
I have been visiting Castellane since I was about 3 years old, I have never known about this lake until Julien, my colleague,
spontaneously asked me to go on a small roadtrip. Chaudanne is beautiful to ride along, it has magnificent views.. The trip took us about 2/2,5 hours with breaks, bathing and stopping for photo's and video's.When driving back you will come across the bigger neighbour of Chaudanne, which is called Lac the Castillion, where lots of bathing, tanning and sunning is possible!
If I'm looking from a photographer perspective I also think that sunrises here would be amazing for landscape photography. Sunsets wouldn't
really be possible since the lake is hidden by mountains on the side where the sun sets, however on the other side is an opening between the mountains, if you are lucky - because this also depends on the time of the year, since the sun is turning around the earth - but it is really worth a try!
According to some locals this lake is not well known by the tourists because it has limited sunbathing options, and there are only a few small parking spots on the side of the road.
I LOVED this trip, I was really amazed by what was hidden behind these mountains. We laughed a lot, we had a lot of fun and it is amazing to discover new things, places and treasures. One thing that made me laugh a lot at the start was this drawn
